Plant for Pollinators was created in response to the theme of “Expansive Greening” for an application to the City of Sydney Creative Hoardings program. The concept focuses on pollinators, particularly Australian native bees, as a way city residents can actively contribute to urban biodiversity. Even small spaces such as balconies and rooftops can support pollinators and help regenerate local ecosystems.
The artwork features bold illustrations of flowers favoured by Australian native bees, designed to catch the attention of pedestrians passing the hoardings. Each flower is given eyes to create a sense of connection, while the dark background increases contrast and visibility in the street environment. Only the scientific names are included to spark curiosity and encourage viewers to look up the plants and consider growing them themselves. Hand-painted typography gives the work a more organic, natural feel.
